If your entire business runs on Claude, last week should have scared you. On June 12, 2026, the Trump administration ordered Anthropic to pull its most powerful models — Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 — offline. Not because the models were broken. Not because Anthropic did something wrong. Because a jailbreak was flagged as a national security risk, and the government gave Anthropic 90 minutes to comply.
I watched this unfold in real time. Dozens of cybersecurity researchers, AI entrepreneurs, and corporate executives signed an open letter at freefable.org criticizing the move. Former Facebook chief security officer Alex Stamos said he’d seen the research behind the decision and disagreed with the assessment. Anthropic called the vulnerabilities “minor” and said similar issues exist in other companies’ models. None of that mattered — the models were pulled, and anyone who depended on them had to figure out a backup plan overnight.
This isn’t a political story. This is a business continuity story. And if you’re a solopreneur or small business owner using AI tools, it’s your story too.
What actually happened
Here’s the timeline: Anthropic launched Fable 5 on June 9. Three days later, the government flagged a jailbreak — a way to bypass the model’s safety guardrails — and ordered an export-control directive barring access for foreign nationals. Anthropic disabled all access to both Fable 5 and Mythos 5 to comply.
The situation is still developing. Trump said at the G7 that negotiations with Anthropic are “going fine.” By June 20, he told Axios he no longer views the company as a national security threat. But as of this writing, neither model has been restored. Other Claude models — Opus, Sonnet, Haiku — remain fully available.
The key detail for solopreneurs: this wasn’t a technical failure. It was a regulatory event. The model worked fine. The government decided it was too dangerous. And there was no warning, no grace period, no transition plan. If you’d built your entire workflow around Fable 5’s capabilities, you woke up on June 12 with nothing.
Why this matters even if you don’t use Claude
“But I use ChatGPT.” Good for you — for now. The Fable ban isn’t about Claude specifically. It’s about the precedent: any AI model can be pulled at any time for reasons that have nothing to do with its technical performance. Government regulators, export controls, safety concerns, geopolitical events — any of these can take your AI tool offline without warning.

You’re not just paying for a subscription — you’re building dependencies. Every automation, every workflow, every client deliverable that runs through a single AI model is a single point of failure.
If you’re using Make.com or Zapier to automate your business and every step calls Claude, you don’t have an automation. You have a Claude-dependent automation. When Claude goes down, everything goes down.
How to build redundancy — the no-code way
You don’t need to be a developer to build AI workflows that survive a model outage. Here’s how I do it.
Step 1: Audit your AI dependencies. Open every automation you’ve built in Make, Zapier, or whatever tool you use. Look at every step that calls an AI model. Write down which model each step uses. If more than 70% of your critical workflows point to the same model, you have a problem.
Step 2: Set up fallback chains. Most automation platforms let you add error handling. In Make.com, you can use the “Resume” error handler — if one module fails, it tries an alternative. Set up your workflows so that if Claude fails, the automation falls back to ChatGPT (or vice versa). The output quality might vary slightly, but your workflow doesn’t stop.

Tools like Cursor (for code), Perplexity (for research), and even the AI orchestrators I covered let you pick which model handles each task. Use that flexibility. Don’t default to one model for everything.
Step 4: Separate your “must work” from “nice to have.” Not every AI task needs redundancy. If you use AI to draft social media posts, an outage is annoying but not catastrophic. If you use AI to process client orders, generate invoices, or respond to customer messages, an outage stops your revenue. Identify your critical workflows and build fallbacks for those first. The rest can wait.

Step 5: Keep a manual backup for your top 3 workflows. This sounds old-school, but hear me out. If your AI-powered client onboarding workflow breaks, can you onboard a client manually? If your AI invoice generator goes down, can you send an invoice by hand? Spend 30 minutes documenting the manual process for your three most critical workflows. You’ll probably never need it — but if you do, you’ll be glad it exists.
What to do today
Here’s your action list for this week:
- Audit: Open Make.com or Zapier. Count how many workflows depend on a single AI model. If it’s more than 5, flag them.
- Fallback: Pick your most critical workflow. Add an error handler that tries a second model if the first one fails.
- Diversify: Sign up for at least one backup AI tool. You don’t need to pay — most have free tiers. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Mistral — pick one you’re not currently using and create an account.
- Document: Write a one-paragraph manual backup for your top 3 AI-dependent processes.
None of this takes more than an afternoon. And it’s the difference between “my AI tool went down and I lost a day” and “my AI tool went down and my clients didn’t notice.”
The bottom line
The Claude Fable ban isn’t an Anthropic problem. It’s a single-vendor dependency problem. The solopreneurs who got caught off guard weren’t stupid — they were loyal. They picked one tool, built everything around it, and trusted it would always be there. That trust got violated by a government decision nobody predicted.
Tool-agnostic beats loyalty. Every time. Build workflows that survive the model, not workflows that depend on it.
