When General Intuition raised $320M at a $2.3B valuation to train AI agents on gaming data, the story was about where AI is going. Glow’s $180M raise at a $1.2B valuation is about something closer to home: what’s already running on your laptop right now — and who’s watching it.

Glow emerged from stealth last month backed by Sequoia, Cyberstarts, Greenoaks, and Redpoint. The pitch: AI has landed on endpoints in a way enterprises aren’t prepared for. Every AI agent, every dev tool, every npm package on an employee device is a potential attack vector. Glow uses AI agents to continuously map those environments, assess risk in real time, and enforce security policies before threats execute. Not after. Before.

If you’re a solo builder running Claude, ChatGPT agents, Cursor, or any automation stack on your own machine, this should catch your attention. Not because you need Glow’s enterprise platform — but because the problem it’s solving exists on your laptop too. You just don’t have a team of former Meta and Snowflake executives protecting it.

The endpoint problem nobody’s talking to you about

Here’s the uncomfortable truth: the security conversation in the solo builder community is stuck at “use a strong password” and “enable 2FA.” Meanwhile, enterprises are spending hundreds of millions to address a fundamentally different threat landscape — one where AI agents install packages, pull data from external sources, and execute code with your permissions.

Glow’s co-founder Roi Tiger put it plainly: “If you think of the past decade, everything was moving to the cloud and SaaS. Suddenly, AI lands on the endpoint in a way we’ve never seen.” The company has already prevented malicious npm packages from being installed in customer environments and detected AI agents attempting to pull in compromised software components.

Read that again: AI agents trying to install malicious packages. That’s not a theoretical risk — it’s happening in production at companies with dedicated security teams. If you’re a solo builder running an AI coding agent with broad file system access and no guardrails, you’re exposed to the same class of attack with zero detection.

What Glow gets right that most solo builders ignore

Glow’s approach is “prevent, don’t detect.” Traditional endpoint security — think CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft Defender — focuses on identifying threats after they’ve already entered the environment. Glow’s pitch is that in the AI era, you need to control what enters the environment in the first place.

That’s a mindset shift solo builders should steal. Here’s what it looks like in practice:

Audit your endpoints. Before you think about protection, know what’s running. Every AI tool, every CLI, every background service on your machine is an endpoint. I’ve been testing AI tools for over a year, and the number of things silently running in the background is always higher than I expect. Run a process audit. Check your startup items. Know what has network access.

Control what your AI agents install. If you’re using Claude Code, Cursor, or any AI coding agent, it has the ability to install packages, modify files, and execute commands. That’s powerful — and dangerous. Use lockfiles. Pin dependencies. Review what your agent installs before it runs in production. Glow caught malicious npm packages in enterprise environments — the same attack vector exists on your machine right now.

Limit agent permissions. This is the one everyone skips because it’s inconvenient. Your AI agent doesn’t need root access. It doesn’t need access to your entire file system. It doesn’t need your API keys stored in environment variables. The agent security gap I covered recently showed that 54% of enterprises had AI agent incidents — and those are companies with security teams. You’re running the same tools with fewer safeguards.

Validate external data. If your agent pulls data from APIs, web scraping, or external sources, validate it before acting on it. Prompt injection through external data is one of the most common attack vectors for AI agents, and it’s trivially easy to execute. Glow’s platform continuously assesses risk from external inputs — you should be doing the same thing manually.

The security AI arms race and what it means for you

Glow isn’t alone. Google recently dropped Gemini Flash Cyber at a fraction of the cost of Claude Mythos, making security AI accessible to smaller teams. The offensive side is moving fast too — Anthropic’s Mythos model demonstrated advanced capabilities in identifying and exploiting software vulnerabilities, which is why companies like Glow exist in the first place.

The pattern here is what I warned about with AI groupthink: when everyone uses the same AI tools, everyone faces the same vulnerabilities. If your AI agent can install a package, so can every other agent running the same model with the same permissions. One compromised dependency affects the entire ecosystem.

This is why the “I’m too small to be a target” argument doesn’t hold. You’re not being targeted specifically — you’re being caught in the same net as everyone else running the same tools with the same defaults. Automated attacks don’t discriminate by company size.

What you can do today (without a $1.2B budget)

You don’t need Glow’s platform. But you do need to take endpoint security seriously if you’re running AI tools on your machine. Here’s the practical version:

  1. Run a dependency audit. npm audit, pip audit, or whatever your package manager offers. Fix the critical findings. Do it monthly.

  2. Use lockfiles everywhere. If your project doesn’t have a package-lock.json or poetry.lock, you’re trusting every dependency to serve you whatever it wants. Pin your versions.

  3. Sandbox your AI agents. Use Docker containers, VMs, or at minimum, dedicated user accounts with limited permissions for your AI coding tools. Don’t run Claude Code as root.

  4. Review before you commit. If your AI agent modifies code, read the diff before pushing. If it installs a package, check what that package does. Glow prevents threats by controlling what enters the environment — you can do the same thing by reviewing what your tools produce.

  5. Keep your tools updated. The boring advice nobody follows. Security patches exist for a reason. If you’re running a version of Node, Python, or any framework that’s more than a few months behind, you’re carrying known vulnerabilities.

Glow’s $1.2B valuation isn’t just about one startup. It’s a signal that the market believes AI on endpoints is the next major security frontier. Enterprises are spending to address it. Attackers are already exploiting it. And solo builders — the people running the most AI tools per capita — are largely ignoring it.

You don’t need to panic. But you do need to stop treating your laptop like a safe environment just because you’re not running a Fortune 500 company. The threats are automated, the attacks are indiscriminate, and the tools you love using are the exact attack vectors being exploited.

Start with awareness. Then start with lockfiles.
